A Small Office Design with Industrial Look and Feel case study
by 0813 Studio Commercial Interior Designs, Sydney NSW.
Located in Sydney suburban area (Norwest), this small office is around 350sqm, within a newly constructed commercial building Lvl 3. New shell - carpet, tiled ceiling, the Landlord also provided a new kitchenette.
The client would like something more interesting and modern, not generic or copy-paste design, even though the handover condition was clean and neat.
0813 Studio commercial interior designs took on the challenge.
Here we go...
0813 studio design notes.
- modern industrial look and feel
- Emphasis on contrasts:
Material: hard concrete with soft timber and fabric on loose furniture
Color: we choose bold colors in contrast with warm and neutral tone colors to highlight certain areas.
- Emphasis on openness and team building: More glazing instead of solid partitions, different seating arrangements catering for individual needs.
How did we put together the small office design?
We opened up the ceiling to expose all existing ceiling services to add rawness and industrial look and feel to the space, and use the existing ceiling services (plus new cable trays) as a feature. Then we spray-painted the ceiling to black in order to ensure a neat ceiling presentation. We added oak finish timber slats as feature ceiling throughout, providing a nice contrast in color and material with the black ceiling. We also took out the carpet and made polished concrete floor to add more dramatic feeling to the space. Through colorful loose furniture, we added some accent colors as well.
